Product Description
ASTM A240 Grade 304 and Grade 304L stainless steel plates are standard 18-8 materials, containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Known for their versatility, Grade 304 stainless steel plate is widely used in various applications due to its excellent forming and welding characteristics. Both Grade 304 and Grade 304L stainless steel plates dominate the manufacture of stainless steel fabrications. They can be brake formed into a variety of components suitable for industrial, architectural, and transportation sectors. Additionally, Grade 304L serves as the low carbon version of Grade 304.
Features:
-> Corrosion Resistance: Type 304/304L stainless steel exhibits excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments, including atmospheric conditions, chemicals, and acids. This makes it suitable for various applications in industries such as food processing, chemical processing, and marine environments.
-> Mechanical Properties: Type 304/304L stainless steel offers mechanical properties that are comparable to most structural steels. It has good strength and ductility, making it suitable for a wide range of structural and mechanical applications.
-> Non-Magnetic: In its annealed condition (i.e., after being heated and allowed to cool slowly), Type 304/304L stainless steel is non-magnetic. This property can be advantageous in certain applications where magnetic interference is a concern.
-> Heat Treatment: Type 304/304L stainless steel is not hardenable by heat treatment. This means that its mechanical properties cannot be significantly altered through heat treatment processes such as quenching and tempering.
-> Cold Work: The strength of Type 304/304L stainless steel can be enhanced through cold working processes such as cold rolling, cold drawing, or cold forging. These processes can improve the material's hardness and strength while retaining its corrosion resistance.
-> Weldability: When welding is required, it is recommended to use Type 304/304L stainless steel or its low carbon version (with a maximum carbon content of 0.03%). This helps to minimize the risk of sensitization and intergranular corrosion that can occur in higher carbon versions during welding.
